Ohio State football announces cancellation of home-and-home series with Pac-12 program

Ohio State football is calling off its previously scheduled home-and-home matchup against Washington, the programs announced on Wednesday.
Per a release from Washington athletics, the Buckeyes have made a decision to cancel the series scheduled for 2024 and 2025. The series was originally agreed to in 2017 with the 2024 supposed to be played at Washington and the 2025 game scheduled to be played in Columbus.
According to the release, Ohio State will abide by the terms of the contract, including any liquidated damages. Mike Vorel with the Seattle Times reports that cost will be no less than $500,000 for the Buckeyes to get out of the game.
“We are very disappointed that our student-athletes, staff and Husky Nation won’t get to experience these two games with Ohio State,” said UW director of athletics Jennifer Cohen. “Everyone has had these dates circled for a number of years and we were looking forward to these opportunities to compete against the Buckeyes. We are in the process of finding new opponents for the 2024 and 2025 seasons and will provide an update as soon as we have one.”
With the cancellation, Ohio State is expected to replace that 2024 road trip to Washington with a home game against another nonconference opponent. Ohio State’s nonconference schedule for 2024 now has games against Southern Miss (Aug. 31) and Western Michigan (Sept. 21).
