Ohio State punter Jesse Mirco has lost his black stripe.

The Buckeyes announced that development on Friday afternoon. Here’s a video commemorating the milestone:

“I just want to thank you boys for welcoming me into the brotherhood,” Mirco said. “All the coaching staff for the opportunity.”

Mirco signed with the Buckeyes in the class of 2021 as one of the most talented punters in the country. He’s Australian and hails from Fremantle, Australia.

Mirco was the No. 6-ranked punter for the class of 2021, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

He’s from the ProKick Australia program which also produced former Ohio State punter Cameron Johnston. Johnston was First Team All-Big Ten in 2016 and currently punts for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mirco is in a battle with Michael O’Shaughnessy for Ohio State’s starting punting job this fall.

More members of Ohio State’s 2021 recruiting class are expected to shed their black stripes over the next couple weeks. The Buckeyes open their season at Minnesota on Sept. 2.
