As the season opener nears, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day remains with a decision to make at the quarterback spot.
The starting job is still up in the air between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown.
Ohio State insider Bill Rabinowitz joined “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” Tuesday to discuss the situation.
Rabinowitz reminded fans that McCord came into Ohio State as a 5-star and also has some pre-developed chemistry with the Buckeyes’ top receiver, Marvin Harrison Jr.
“Kyle McCord’s a 5-star,” Rabinowitz said. “A lot of people don’t realize or remember that he was high school teammates with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kyle was the 5-star and Marvin Harrison was the 4-star. He comes in with a little bit of pedigree.”
The two quarterbacks have very different styles, Rabinowitz explained. McCord is more of a pocket passer, though he can move a little. Meanwhile, Brown is dynamic and will move a lot more than McCord. Rabinowitz also said that McCord, at the moment, is a more polished passer.
Rabinowitz believes Day will give McCord the nod, but it’s just a matter of time at this point.
“I’m a little surprised Kyle McCord hasn’t won the job already. I think it’s pretty close to 50/50 as Ryan Day said. If I had to be on one of them I’d probably still say McCord just because he’s more experienced.”
