Ohio State makes jump in 2024 recruiting rankings following Bryce West’s commitment

Ohio State entered Saturday already looking at a top 5 recruiting class for the 2024 cycle. After landing a commitment from the top in-state player, the Buckeyes have climbed even higher.
Early Saturday, Ohio State picked up a pledge from 4-star cornerback Bryce West. The 247 Sports Composite rates West as a top 50 player for the cycle, the No. 4 CB in the country and the top player out of Ohio for the class of 2024.
Even before the addition of West, Ohio State entered the weekend with the No. 5 recruiting class in the nation per the 247 Sports Team Composite. Now, the Buckeyes have climbed to No. 2 in the country.
In the process, Ohio State climbed past Michigan (now the No. 3 ranked class in the country) for the top recruiting class in the B1G. Ryan Day’s program also shot past Florida (No. 4) and Notre Dame (No. 5) while Penn State is just outside the top 5 at No. 6 overall.
Georgia — the defending national champs — holds the top-ranked recruiting class for the cycle and will be tough to catch. The Bulldogs hold a trio of 5-star prospects, including No. 1 overall prospect Dylan Raiola.
While Georgia’s 296.06 points for the 2024 recruiting class far outweighs Ohio State’s 262.14 points, the Buckeyes now hold a slight edge in the average score per prospect. Ohio State’s average score is 93.54, just ahead of an average 93.43 score for the Bulldogs. Alabama (94.36) is the only program with a higher average as things currently stand.
Notable commitments for Ohio State
It should come as no surprise with Brian Hartline on staff, but the current 5-star pledges for Ohio State come from the wide receiver position. Jeremiah Smith out of Florida and Mylan Graham out of Indiana headline the class of the Buckeyes.
Other key pieces and top-100 players for Ohio State include 4-star QB Air Noland and 4-star RB James Peoples out of Texas. We’ll see if the Buckeyes can hold onto their No. 2 spot, but it is a good sign for Day and company heading toward the final week of June.
