Ohio State is gearing up for the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, but the Buckeyes will be without a large number of players for the showdown vs. Utah.

Heading into kickoff in Pasadena, the main story has been a large number of opt-outs for Ohio State, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Most notably, star receivers Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave are foregoing the game.

However, opt-outs are not the only absences Ohio State is working with for the Rose Bowl. According to Bill Landis with The Athletic, the Buckeyes will be without 24 scholarship players for the game. Those absences are a combination of season-ending injuries, recent injuries or illness, opt-outs, and transfers following the regular season.

It will be interesting to see how that shifts the makeup for the game. Ohio State was already looking to play a large number of younger players for the contest and that number will be even higher now.
