The recruiting trail for the future never sleeps in the world of college football. That came true once again heading into the weekend.
On Friday, Ohio State landed a commitment for the class of 2025. That is not a typo with one player already putting out a verbal pledge entering their sophomore season on the football field.
The player is Jontae Gilbert, a 6-foot-1 cornerback out of Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Having completed just his freshman season to date, Gilbert has not yet received an official star rating. However, his highlights on Hudl show a prospect with impressive range and instincts at a young age.
Prior to committing to Ohio State, Gilbert had drawn Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and others. It comes as no surprise, but Gilbert is the first verbal commitment to Ohio State via the 2025 recruiting class.
With such a long way to go to signing day for 2025, it will be interesting to see if this commitment holds up throughout Gilbert’s high school career.
