Not that there’s much surprise behind the decision, but it was announced Monday evening that Ohio State record-breaking quarterback Dwayne Haskins has indeed received an invitation to New York for the Heisman ceremony on Dec. 8.

He’ll sit alongside Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovalia — the odds-on favorite — and Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray.

In his first season as the Buckeyes starting QB, Haskins has shattered school record books, completing 348 of 496 pass attempts for 4,580 yards and 47 touchdowns — also both Big Ten records — with just eight interceptions. Although Ohio State didn’t earn a playoff bid, he did lead his team to a 12-1 record, a Big Ten championship and a berth in the Rose Bowl against Pac-12 champion Washington.

He becomes the first Ohio State player to be invited to the Heisman trophy ceremony since former QB Troy Smith won the coveted award in 2006.

The award is given to the most outstanding player in the country, voted on by sports journalists and past Heisman winners alike. Voting began Nov. 26 and concluded Dec. 3 following the conference championship games.

The ceremony, which takes place at the Marriot Marquis in Times Square, will begin at 8 p.m. EST this Saturday evening.
