Another Buckeye has claimed the Chicago Tribune’s Silver Football Award.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields was named the winner of the Silver Football on Wednesday, an award presented to the B1G’ Most Valuable Player. He is the 20th player in the program to receive the honor, and the seventh Buckeye in the last nine years to win.

Fields has thrown for 1,906 yards and 21 touchdowns this season while completing better than 70% of his passes. He’s led the Buckeyes to a 7-0 season this far, including a win over Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinal round. Next, Ohio State takes on Alabama with the national title at stake.

Last season, the Silver Football was awarded to Ohio State defensive end Chase Young. In 2018, Buckeyes quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. was presented with the honor.

The Chicago Tribune has been presenting the Silver Football to the B1G’s top player each season since 1924.
