An Ohio State quarterback who was battling to backup J.T. Barrett is out indefinitely following hand surgery.
Sophomore Joe Burrow had surgery on Tuesday to repair a broken bone in his hand. He suffered the injury during practice on Monday and was treated at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Burrow was battling for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, along with Dwayne Haskins and Tate Martell. Fortunately the Buckeyes have depth at the quarterback position, but it’s still a tough blow for Burrow, who had been performing well throughout fall camp.
The redshirt sophomore played in five games last season and had pretty good results. He completed 22-of-28 passes for 226 yards, a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions. He also has 58 yards on 12 carries with one touchdown on the ground.
Ohio State opens the year on Aug. 31 against Indiana.
