Ohio State RB coach Tony Alford updates depth chart battle behind J.K. Dobbins

Ohio State’s backfield depth is starting to take shape in fall camp.
The unit will have big shoes to fill after Mike Weber’s departure. The Buckeyes are returning 2018’s leading rusher J.K. Dobbins who has 2,456 rushing yards through two seasons, but depth as a whole is a bit of a concern heading into the season.
Running backs coach Tony Alford addressed the ongoing position battle behind Dobbins, and the second and third-string slots are being solidified. Alford laid out the plan Wednesday night. Behind Dobbins right now would be Demario McCall in the second-string spot with freshman Marcus Crowley as the third-string back.
Dan Hope with Eleven Warriors shared Alford’s comments:
Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford said that if the Buckeyes had a game today, Demario McCall would be the No. 2 running back, and Marcus Crowley would be next in after him. Master Teague has missed time this preseason with an injury, setting him back in the competition.

McCall has 676 yards from scrimmage with six touchdowns in his career. Crowley was a four-star recruit and the No. 26 RB in the nation for the 2019 class on the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.
