After leaving Friday’s game against Purdue early because of an apparent head injury, Ohio State’s Kyle Young will have to watch his team play rival Michigan from the sidelines.

Saturday morning, Ohio State released an update on Young. The senior forward suffered a concussion in the second half of the quarterfinal game against Purdue after taking an elbow to the head from Trevion Williams. He will miss the semifinal game against Michigan, scheduled for this afternoon.

Young has entered Ohio State medical protocols and will continue to be evaluated daily.

In the first half of Friday’s game, Young was unstoppable. He scored 18 points and knocked down all four of his attempts from 3-point range, helping lift the Buckeyes to a 49-31 halftime advantage over the Boilermakers.

Purdue stormed back and was able to force overtime, but Ohio State pulled away in the final five minutes, winning 87-78 to advance.

Young is averaging 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He adds an element of toughness and energy when he’s on the floor for Ohio State, so his absence will be a huge loss for the Buckeyes.

Michigan will also be without one of its top players for Saturday’s game. Head coach Juwan Howard confirmed in the morning that Isaiah Livers is out indefinitely with a foot injury. The senior is averaging 13.1 points per game for the Wolverines.
