Ohio State defensive tackle Haskell Garrett has a decision to make.
The NCAA is allowing players an extra year of eligibility since the 2020 season was not counted against their time on the field or on the court.
With the added time, some teams will be welcoming back players at several positions, and will have added depth. The choice is creating some difficult decisions for seniors as they make their future plans.
Garrett he is among those players who are facing a tough decision.
At Tuesday’s press conference, Garrett said, “I’m still debating that, and that’s something that I’m gonna have to go over with myself and my family after the season.”
Garrett has started five of Ohio State’s six games and is a 39-game career veteran, and posted career highs in every statistical category this season and was a third team All-Big Ten choice last week. His career statistical totals are 37 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss (for minus 19 yards) and one interception. In last Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game, a 22-10 win over Northwestern, he posted a career-high five tackles.
Ohio State will face Clemson in the Sugar Bowl on Friday night, Jan. 1, for a chance to play in the national championship game.
Haskell Garrett was one of four seniors who were not recognized during a virtual senior day on Dec. 12, suggesting they might be contemplating a return. The others were Jaylen Harris, Demario McCall and Marcus Williamson.
