As Ohio State is preparing to face Oregon this weekend in Columbus, the Buckeyes’ top receiver is recalling a childhood full of memories rooting for the Ducks.
Chris Olave said on Tuesday afternoon that Oregon was his “dream school,” but the Ducks didn’t recruit him until too late in the process. Olave is from San Marcos, California.
He committed to Ohio State on Jan. 28, 2018. It’s worth noting current Oregon coach Mario Cristobal didn’t take over in Eugene until December of 2017.
Olave’s fandom for Oregon means he was cheering for the Ducks during the 2014 National Championship Game — a battle that Ohio State ultimately won 42-20.
Chris Olave said Oregon was his “dream school,” but they started recruiting him too late. By that time, his mind was already made up that he was going to be a Buckeye.

Since joining Ohio State, Olave has done nothing but surpass expectations. Originally a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports Composite rankings, Olave is now expected to be a first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
ESPN’s Todd McShay said he was the “most explosive” player in this entire draft class earlier this month.
Olave is off to a good start this season. He caught 4 passes for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns in Ohio State’s season-opening win over Minnesota last week.
Ohio State and Oregon kick off at 12 p.m. ET. on Saturday.
