If Shawn Robinson handles his business against Southern and SMU, he’ll likely be the starting quarterback facing Ohio State on Sept. 15 in Dallas.

Robinson was named TCU’s starting quarterback Sunday by Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson. The sophomore signal-caller beat out Pennsylvania transfer Michael Collins.

“Both of them will play in the first game but Shawn will be the starter,” Patterson told reporters. “Mike will have a chance to get his reps.”

Robinson appeared in five games last season as the backup to Kenny Hill. He was 13-of-27 passing for 184 yards and three touchdowns in 2017.

The Desoto, Texas, product will likely be extra-motivated to give it all he’s got against Ohio State. Robinson was the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback of the class of 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite, and was recruited by former Buckeyes assistant Tim Beck, but OSU did not extend a scholarship offer. Ohio State ended up signing Tate Martell, the Composite No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the class.
