Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba sets multiple records with monster first half in Rose Bowl

Ohio State and Utah are locked in a true shootout for the Rose Bowl with points piled up in bunches. At the half, it is the Utes with a 35-21 lead after a wild and crazy second quarter.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been a key piece for Ohio State, especially in the absence of Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. He torched Utah for multiple long touchdowns and racked up the yardage before halftime.
At the break, Smith-Njigba has 7 catches for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns. How impressive is that? He’s already surpassed Cris Carter’s Ohio State record for receiving yards in a bowl game.
Carter had 172 yards in the 1985 Rose Bowl. Smith-Njigba will get the second half to try and add on to his record total.

Smith-Njigba also cemented his spot in Ohio State’s record books by setting the single-season mark for receiving yardage. At halftime of the Rose Bowl, Smith-Njigba is now up to 1,444 receiving yards in 2021. That breaks the regular season record previously held by David Boston who had 1,435 yards in 1998.
