Justin Fields put on a scintillating show during last week’s Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, and he did the bulk of that work after being speared in the ribs and hurt during the game’s first quarter.

According to Ohio State coach Ryan Day, Fields woke up the next morning feeling better than he thought he would considering the situation and will be a full-go, barring further injury, for next week’s national championship game.

Pat Forde had the tweet quoting Day, posted below.

The hit, which earned Clemson linebacker James Skalski an ejection, put Fields onto the field turf several minutes before he returned to the game in obvious pain the rest of the night only to throw as many touchdowns—six—as he did incompletions. The Buckeyes won the game going away, 49-28, over the higher-seeded and heavily favored Tigers.

Next up for Ohio State is the national championship against Goliath, the top-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide program led by Nick Saban, and it appears they’ll have their ace quarterback holding onto the sling and firing the rocks when they do it.
