Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has been in Eugene since 2022, so he’s just now settling into his 4th season at the helm of the mighty program in the Pacific Northwest.
That’s the same amount of time that Brian Kelly had been at LSU before he was fired last Sunday night amid the Tigers’ struggles this season in the SEC. Meanwhile, in the Big Ten, way out in Eugene, there sits Lanning, who has the Ducks in their usual spot among the nation’s best teams. Oregon is 7-1 and ranked 6th as it enjoys a bye week, but Lanning didn’t really enjoy talking to reporters during Wednesday’s bye week press conference about the recent chaos going on in the coaching ranks.
“You know, I’m not sure exactly what the hurry is for, but it’s part of what we all are aware of and what we signed up for in this profession,” Lanning said. “It’s a tough profession, but it’s a really rewarding profession. There’s a lot of people who would love to do what we get to do, and it’s nice to be in a place that has, you know, really consistent stability, and players that are really focused.”
Lanning is 42-7 so far during his wildly successful tenure at Oregon, with the 1 thing missing being that elusive national title. He’s working on a 4th straight double-digit win season. Lanning knows the highs, but he also sees the current chaotic climate in college coaching.
“But I think that’s just, you know, an example of distractions that exist right now in college football that, you know, our players and our coaches handle really well,” Lanning said.
Lanning’s Ducks are back in action at Iowa on Nov. 8, when they’ll look to build toward that ultimate goal in January.
