Oregon DB arrested on felony hit-and-run charges in connection with fatal incident

Oregon defensive back Daylen Austin was recently arrested on hit-and-run charges in relation to a fatal incident.
According to documents obtained by James Crepea with The Oregonian, Austin was arrested on felony hit and run charges in relation to a fatal incident from Monday night. Austin remains in custody as of Wednesday morning after being arrested on Tuesday.
A Eugene police department spokesperson confirmed they are investigating a “fatal hit-and-run at W. 4th and Polk” from April 15 that occurred around 9:10 p.m.
“Daylen Amir Austin, age 19, has initially been charged with felony Hit and Run,” said the spokesperson. “This is a complex investigation and EPD is still gathering information to be submitted to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for a final charging decision.”

“We are aware of the incident and are awaiting additional information,” said an Oregon athletics spokesperson per Crepea.
Austin is a redshirt freshman who appeared in 3 games a season ago during his first year with the Ducks. He was a 4-star recruit out of Long Beach, California and was one of the best cornerbacks in the 2023 recruiting class per the 247 Sports Composite.
