The path to No. 1 just got a whole lot clearer.

Ohio State’s pursuit of the top-ranked recruiting class in 2018 got a little easier with the announcement from 5-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere that he’s coming to Columbus.

The No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 7 player overall in the 2018 class picked the Buckeyes instead of going with Florida, which he was once committed to.

The Tampa native went with the Buckeyes after taking a late official visit to Columbus, where his recruitment took a turn after once looking like a lock for the Gators.

Interestingly enough, Petit-Frere was recruited by Greg Schiano, who told recruits that he wasn’t leaving Ohio State to take the defensive coordinator job with the New England Patriots.

That didn’t impact Petit-Frere’s decision:

With Petit-Frereis (pronounced “peh-tee freh-rare)” now on board, the Buckeyes are locked in with the No. 1 class, at least for the time being. Georgia did pick up its seventh 5-star recruit, which set a record for the 247sports rankings era.

Ohio State now has 13 recruits rated in the top 100 of the 247sports composite.
