Improving to 8-0, the No. 17 Minnesota Golden Gophers routed the Maryland Terrapins, 52-10, on October 26 at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Reaching the eight-win mark for the first time since the 2016 season, head coach P.J. Fleck also achieved a personal milestone in the process.

Minnesota football’s official Twitter account recognized their coach’s accomplishment:

Beginning his career in coaching as a graduate assistant with Ohio State in 2006, Fleck got his first head coaching job with Western Michigan in 2013.

Posting a 30-22 record in four years in Kalamazoo, Fleck’s 2016 team – his final year with the Broncos – reached the Cotton Bowl where they fell to Wisconsin.

Joining the Gophers in 2017, Fleck reached his first bowl game at Minnesota, the Quick Lane Bowl, last season.

Idle on Saturday, the Gophers host Penn State (8-0) on November 9.
