Minnesota has a unique challenge in Week 1 of the 2021 season: a new-look Ohio State.
The Buckeyes will of course still be formidable, but they will be playing their first game with new players at several key areas.
Ohio State will be without quarterback Justin Fields, running back Trey Sermon, linebacker Pete Werner, defensive back Shaun Wade, pass rusher Baron Browning as well as offensive linemen Josh Myers and Wyatt Davis.
But Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck understands that the while the Buckeyes will be inexperienced in some positions, the talent is still there.
“They’re one of the greatest teams in college football,” Fleck told reporters at Minnesota’s media day on Tuesday morning. “They reload, they don’t rebuild.”
Fleck said he wanted to “focus on us” for the next few weeks. He believes Minnesota will have a chance to pull off the upset if they play their best football.
