The new tradition at Iowa to wave at patients in the Children’s Hospital overlooking Kinnick Stadium after the first quarter of every home game has quickly become one of the best things in college football.

Fans, media, players and coaches all love the new gesture and it’s been the subject to multiple audio, video and written stories. It’s become as much apart of Iowa football as Herky the Hawk.

During his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck was asked about the new tradition at Iowa, as the Gophers prepare to take on the Hawkeyes in Iowa City this weekend.

“I think that is my favorite tradition in college football,” Fleck said.

The tradition started earlier this year, when thousands of fans at Kinnick Stadium turned to wave at the children in the overlooking hospital during Iowa’s season opener against Wyoming. Since that time, coaches and players — even from the opposing sideline — officials and media have even started to join in.

It really has become one of the best traditions in college football, and with Fleck such a proponent of community service and giving back, don’t be surprised if the Gophers are waving at those children across the stadium this Saturday.

Minnesota and Iowa will battle for Floyd of Rosedale on Saturday night in Kinnick Stadium. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET and will air on FS1.
