After rushing for three touchdowns a week ago against Oregon State, Minnesota running back Shannon Brooks didn’t play in Minnesota’s non-conference finale against Middle Tennessee. The ball-carrier was dressed but was held of the game due to an injury.
On Sunday, head coach P.J. Fleck gave an update on Brooks and said that the Gophers running back should be ready to go for the B1G opener against Maryland in two weeks.

That’s good news for the Gophers, who played without Brooks and had to pull starting running back Rodney Smith from this week’s game due to injury. In their absence, Kobe McCrary stepped up and rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-3 win.
Brooks ranks second on the team in rushing yards, piling up 160 in the first two games of the season. He’s found the end zone four times, leading the Gophers in that category. Brooks has also caught two passes for 10 yards.
Minnesota will have a bye this Saturday before hosting the Terrapins at TCF Bank Stadium. Kickoff time hasn’t been announced.
