Arizona State and head coach Herm Edwards have decided to part ways following a disappointing 1-2 start to the season, the program announced on Sunday evening.

A Week 3 upset at the hands of Eastern Michigan left fans calling for Edwards’ removal. Eagles’ running back Samson Evans exploded for 258 yards and a score.

The Sun Devils now face a regime change just one week before their toughest stretch of the schedule. Arizona State is set to face No. 13 Utah, No. 7 USC and No. 18 Washington all in the next three weeks, and things might get out of control quickly unless the program can find stability.

Arizona State now faces the task of finding a new head coach.

“We must do better and that starts with our decision today,” Vice President of University Athletics Ray Anderson said in a statement shortly after the decision.

With Nebraska previously firing Scott Frost, there are now two Power 5 openings on the coaching carousel before we hit Week 4 of the season. We’ll see if any additional openings are added heading into the fall.
