A pair of teams from the B1G are in the running to add a 4-star quarterback to their 2022 recruiting class.

Michigan State and Penn State are listed in the Top 4 for pro-style quarterback AJ Duffy, one of the nation’s Top 5 players at the position in the 2022 class. He made his announcement on Saturday night. The other two teams still in the running are Florida State and Oregon.

Duffy had offers from 35 programs, most of which were from Power 5 programs. Only two other B1G programs offered the 4-star gunslinger in addition to Michigan State and Penn State, with Nebraska and Northwestern also showing interest.

According to 247Sports, Duffy is a 6-foot-2, 203-pound quarterback who is attending IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. That’s been a hotspot for highly-touted football recruits over the past decade.

Duffy transferred to the IMG Academy from Moreno Valley Rancho Verde in California. He did not have a 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in 2019, he threw for 2,568 yards and 26 touchdowns while completing over 70% of his passes while leading his team to an 11-1 record. He also rushed for 501 yards and 4 touchdowns on 65 carries.

Penn State’s 2022 class currently ranks as one of the best in the country. The Nittany Lions have pledges from 7 prospects, ranking No. 2 in the B1G and No. 4 nationally. Michigan state has received 3 verbal commitments thus far, ranking No. 7 in the B1G and No. 31 in the country.
