Pat Narduzzi, former Michigan State defensive coordinator and current head coach at Pitt, likes being the underdog.
The No. 17 team in the country is an underdog against unranked Tennessee out of the SEC, a team the Panthers beat last season. Narduzzi was able to crack a few jokes about that one.
“You’ve heard all summer about the SEC and there’s only two Power 5 conferences in the country, the SEC and the B1G,” Narduzzi said Monday. “So we’re in the Pee-Wee league, we will line up and see if we can play.”

Recent conference expansion talks is what Narduzzi is referring to . The SEC and B1G were both outed as the only conferences immune to losing members, seeing Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12 for the SEC with USC and UCLA leaving the Pac-12 for the B1G.
