Patrick Mahomes is a superstar quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. He is well on his way to becoming the franchise’s all-time passing leader but still trails a Purdue legend for the honor.
Long before Mahomes burst onto the scene, Len Dawson was a record-setting QB for the Boilermakers and later for the Chiefs. Dawson also served as a legendary broadcaster before his recent passing.
Prior to Sunday’s season opener, Mahomes honored Dawson, sporting a warmup jacket with Dawson’s number, silhouette and signature.

Dawson still holds the franchise records for passing yards (28,507) and passing touchdowns (237). Mahomes is currently 3rd in yards (18,991) and 2nd in touchdowns (151).
When Mahomes burst onto the scene in 2018, he set the Chiefs’ single-season record for passing touchdowns with 50. Prior to that performance, Dawson held the franchise’s top 2 spots with seasons of 30 and 29 touchdowns in the 1960s.
It is awesome to see Mahomes continue to recognize and honor Dawson heading into the regular season.
