The Patriots announced on Saturday that several players have been elevated to the active 53 man roster.
One of the players, TE Matt Sokol, is a former Michigan State TE that joined the Patriots in 2022. Sokol was elevated from the practice squad, which he has been a member of since joining the organization.
The Patriots have activated speedy second round WR Tyquan Thornton from IR to the 53-man roster.
They also elevated QB Garrett Gilbert and TE Matt Sokol from the practice squad. Gilbert is likely to back-up Bailey Zappe.

Sokol joined the Spartans in 2014 rated one of the nation’s top tight ends. Sokol was a 3-year starter and played 52 career games, with 22 starts at tight end. Sokol had 31 catches for 348 yards and two TDs in his college career. He had 31 catches for 348 yards and 2 TDs.
Sokol signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft, making stops in Detroit and Jacksonville before being claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots in May of this year. Sokol will serve as the second tight end behind Hunter Henry, helping to fill in for starting tight end Jonnu Smith, who is out with an ankle injury.
