Paul Chryst was let go by Wisconsin on Sunday. The team has reportedly named an interim HC already, according to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
Wisconsin has reportedly named Jim Leonhard as interim HC for the time being. Leonhard has been the Badgers’ DC since 2017.
Chryst was fired following his team’s loss to Illinois in Week 5. Bret Bielema marched into Madison for the first time as a head coach since leaving for the Arkansas job in 2012. Illinois stomped Wisconsin 34-10 in the Badgers’ B1G home opener.
Chryst went 67-26 as Wisconsin’s HC. The Badgers were looking to compete for a B1G West title this season with the likes of Braelon Allen back on offense. The 2-3 start to the season was enough for the Wisconsin leadership to pull the plug on Chryst.
Leonhard first came to Wisconsin as the DB coach in 2016. It’ll be interesting to see how the offense looks under Leonhard if the reports are true.
