Paul Chryst has joined an elite list of some pretty recognizable B1G names.

On Saturday, Wisconsin posted a 31-17 win over Rutgers, improving to 6-3 on the season and 4-2 in B1G play. The victory marked the 40th for Chryst since taking over the Badgers. He needed just 50 games to reach that mark.

Just two other B1G coaches have done that in modern history, Michigan’s Bo Schembechler (44-6) and Ohio State’s Urban Meyer (47-3). Chryst is 40-10.

The information came from Brian Mason, the assistant director of athletic communications at Wisconsin.

Chryst is in his fourth season with the Badgers, leading the program to three 10-win seasons and two B1G West division titles. Last year, Wisconsin was 13-1 and 9-0 in B1G play in the regular season.

Prior to returning to Wisconsin, Chryst was the head coach at Pitt, where he accumulated a 19-19 record in three seasons. He’s taken his teams to a bowl game in all six years as a head coach.

The Badgers hit the six-win mark and clinched bowl eligibility with the win over Rutgers.
