Paul Finebaum believed that Clemson’s College Football Playoff hopes have been put to an end in 2022.
After Clemson suffered it’s 1st loss of the season to Notre Dame, the Playoff was likely a distant memory. Clemson probably needed to win out to have the best chance to make the Playoff in December.

Since Clemson failed to have a perfect regular season, it will be challenging to reach the Playoff. In an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, Finebaum did not hesitate to close the door on Clemson’s Playoff hopes:
“Say goodbye to Clemson. They are done,” Finebaum said. “They have absolutely no path back.”
Clemson was the ACC’s best chance to have a representative in the Playoff. Following the loss, the ACC will most likely miss out on the Playoff. Clemson still has a strong chance of appearing in a New Year’s Six bowl, which will certainly happen if Clemson can win the ACC Championship.
The Notre Dame loss happened days after Clemson landed inside the top-4 of the Playoff’s initial rankings. Some critics doubted Clemson’s legitimacy as a Playoff team. The timing of the loss seemed to hurt Clemson, as the Tigers checked in at No. 10 in the Playoff rankings.
