Ohio State moved up in the latest Associated Press poll on Sunday, but it wasn’t quite high enough, according to SEC Network host Paul Finebaum.

Monday morning, Finebaum joined WJOX’s RoundTable for his weekly segment to talk about the previous week of college football. Though most of the conversation revolves around the SEC, Finebaum was asked one B1G question. Should Ohio State be ranked the No. 1 team in the country right now?

Finebaum, surprisingly, said yes. He believes that Alabama is good, but has too many questions right now on the defensive side of the football. The popular college football guru also said that the Buckeyes are playing perfect football.

“I don’t have a vote, but I would’ve voted Ohio State No. 1. I just think — against average opposition — but they look so perfect right now,” Finebaum said. “I am still officially concerned about Alabama’s defense. They seem to give up late touchdowns every week that skew the score a little bit, it’s just that there are so many key players that are missing and don’t know when they’re coming back.”

Ohio State has given up a grand total of 22 points in the last four games and has scored over 40 points in all five games this season. The Buckeyes are a perfect 5-0 with a 2-0 mark in B1G play. They’ll have a huge test this weekend, hosting Michigan State.

But Ohio State has gained plenty of praise after pummeling Nebraska in Lincoln on Saturday. Both ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit and FOX’s Joel Klatt have the Buckeyes as the No. 1 team in the country through five weeks of the season.

Sounds like Finebaum agrees with that assesment, at least at the moment.
