Let’s give Paul Finebaum a little credit, the typical voice of the SEC has ventured into B1G country to name the best team in college football. That’s right, the SEC Network host believes Ohio State is the top team in the sport right now, based on the first five weeks of the season.

Clemson, the reigning national champion, is on the outside looking in.

Finebaum made his weekly Sunday appearance on SportsCenter to recap the day of college football. Following Ohio State’s 48-7 drubbing of Nebraska in Lincoln, he believes the Buckeyes have proven they’re the team to beat this season. OSU scored over 40 points in each of its first five games.

Clemson, on the other hand, narrowly escaped a close game in Chapel Hill, defeating North Carolina 21-20. The Tar Heels failed a two-point conversion that would’ve give them a late lead on the nation’s top-ranked team.

Other teams that have also been mentioned in the top four, Alabama and Oklahoma, also won in blowout fashion. Georgia and LSU were off this weekend.

It’s not too often that Finebaum is willing to admit that a B1G team is the best in college football. While he still believes the SEC currently has the best conference in the sport, right now, the best team calls the B1G its home.
