The second week of the college football season was a rough one for two of the biggest coaches in the B1G. Jim Harbaugh needed overtime to beat a pesky Army team in Ann Arbor. Scott Frost couldn’t seal the deal against Colorado, despite owning a 17-point lead.
Both teams, and coaches, were subject of some criticism from Paul Finebaum on Monday morning, though the SEC Network radio host was fairly gentle on both guys.
Finebaum was asked which coach had the more disappointing showing on Saturday. His response, due to the big blown lead, was Frost.
“Surprisingly, I think it was Scott Frost because that game was won and all of sudden it wasn’t,” Finebaum said on WJOX’s The RoundTable.
More surprisingly, though, Finebaum wasn’t overly critical of Harbaugh and Michigan, despite nearly suffering an upset loss to the Black Knights on Saturday. He believes Army is a better team than its been given credit.
“I think it’s time to give Army some credit,” Finebaum said. “this reminded me so much of what happened last September, they nearly pulled it off in Norman. And I know that Harbaugh acolytes will argue it didn’t derail Oklahoma. My issue with Michigan is, do they have an offensive coordinator?”
Finebaum says he knows Josh Gattis is running the show, but he’s unimpressed with the “changes” after two weeks.

“It just never looks different up there, it always looks sloppy and methodical,” Finebaum said. “I’m not hitting the panic button. If they lost, I would be, the whole country would be, but they have so many big games left and right now I’d just chalk that one up as survival.”
Harbaugh did survive on Saturday. Frost did not.
We’ll see which direction these two programs go in the coming weeks after disappointing outings in Week 2.
