Payton Sandfort came off the bench in a big way for Iowa Thursday night. With a huge second half and key performance in overtime, Sandfort sent the Hawkeyes to a win over Michigan for Iowa’s third straight win.
Sandfort scored the final 7 points of regulation for the Hawkeyes, including a massive 4-point play to tie the game with 20 seconds to go. His attempt off a catch-and-shoot opportunity was pure plus the foul that sent him to the line for a clutch free-throw attempt.

In the overtime period, Sandfort added 7 of Iowa’s 14 points to take down Michigan, 93-84. One of his key plays was a putback and-1 off of a missed jumper by Kris Murray.

When it was all said and done, Sandfort finished the game with a career-high 26 points to go alongside 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Murray led the Hawkeyes with a team-high 27 points, but it was Sandfort’s work off the bench that provided a big boost Thursday night.
As for the Wolverines, Michigan has now dropped back-to-back games for a third time this season. Jett Howard led the team with a career-high 34 points and Hunter Dickinson chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, but it was not enough on the road in Iowa City.
