Payton isn’t going to let his father’s appearance on the Western Michigan sideline distract him, as he is planning on blocking out the noise per usual according to Ian Kress of WLNS. This will also be Payton’s 1st time facing Western Michigan as the starting quarterback. He redshirted the last time the Spartans played the Broncos in 2019.
Payton Thorne said he talked to his dad this summer about facing each other on Friday, but won’t worry be thinking about it when he runs out on the field.
“I don’t see it as that big of a deal.”

“He was one of those dads, when I was younger, he didn’t let me win,” said Payton Thorne. “I had to beat him.”
