Peach Bowl CEO believes Ohio State-Georgia CFP matchup may shatter Mercedes-Benz Stadium attendance record

Peach Bowl CEO Gary Stokan is just as excited for the College Football Playoff showdown between Ohio State and Georgia as everyone else. It’s for a different reason, however.

Stokan thinks that the matchup will draw a huge crowd to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, breaking the previous attendance record for venue which was set by the 2019 Peach Bowl between LSU and Oklahoma (78,347).

For reference, Mercedes-Benz Stadium has hosted events like the SEC Championship, Atlanta Falcons games, the Super Bowl, and many other sporting events in the past. Plenty of eyes will be on the game, whether that’s at the venue itself or from watching on TV.

It’s not very often that Ohio State and Georgia get to meet on the football field. The last time that the two played each in college football was in 1993. The Bulldogs won that game 21-14 in the Florida Citrus Bowl that year.

We’ll see if Stokan’s predictions are true for the matchup. Kickoff will be on Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
