Penn State is trying to get off the mat from a horrible 2025 season and gain some traction in 2026.
But on Saturday afternoon, the tradition-rich program that changed directions with the hire of head coach Matt Campbell got a big lift for the 2027 season. Three-star safety Jonathan Galette committed to Penn State, as the 6-foot, 180-pounder from Montvale, N.J., chose to stay on the East Coast and be part of Campbell’s rebuilding project.
With Big Ten rival Wisconsin as well as Syracuse also in the mix for Galette, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Saturday that he was heading to State College for the 2027 season.
“They’ve been on the top of my mind throughout my whole recruitment,” Galette told Rivals.
Penn State was interested in Galette before it changed head coaches, firing James Franklin and hiring Campbell, but the program’s interest in the high-profile safety didn’t go away when the new coaching staff arrived in State College.
Galette made roughly a half dozen trips to Penn State during the recruitment process, which came to fruition with Penn State getting the commitment it sought.
In addition to his 3-star status, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Galette is currently rated as the 686th-ranked player overall in the Class of 2027. With Galette’s official designation being an Athlete on the 247 ratings, he is the 54th-ranked Athlete and the 17th-ranked player from the state of New Jersey, according to those Composite rankings.
Penn State now has 9 commits in the 2027 recruiting cycle, with its 2027 class currently ranked 12th in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
