Penn State basketball picked up a crucial win over Maryland on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions won 65-64 on a put-back layup by Camren Wynter with just 0.5 seconds remaining. Wynter grabbed the rebound after a missed 3-point attempt and was able to score the winning basket.

Here’s a replay:

Jalen Pickett led Penn State with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. He played all 40 minutes on Sunday.

This is a major boost for Penn State’s NCAA Tournament chances. Penn State entered today as the last team in the field of 68, according to Joe Lunardi’s latest bracket projection.

Earning this win over Maryland means another Quad 1 victory for Penn State’s résumé. That’s now 5 such victories on the season for the Nittany Lions, including 2 in a row. Penn State also defeated Northwestern on the road earlier this week.

Penn State will still need an impressive showing in the Big Ten Tournament next week. Wisconsin and Michigan are 2 other teams from the Big Ten who remain on the bubble.
