As the offseason continues, new Penn State men’s basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry has continued to put his stamp on the Nittany Lion program. That includes with bringing in transfers but also some higher-end recruits.
The latest to come in is Class of 2022 recruit Evan Mahaffey. The small forward out of Cincinnati announced his decision to commit to Penn State via Twitter on Wednesday.
I want to start off by saying none of this would be possible without God. Thank you to my family, my friends, coaches, and teammates that helped me get to this place in life. With that being said, I am excited to say that I will be committing to… pic.twitter.com/68hY8BnyBV

Mahaffey is a three-star recruit, per 247Sports. He currently is a senior at Archbishop Moeller High School and is Ohio’s sixth best recruit in the Class of 2022.
This is a significant recruiting win for Shrewsberry and his staff. Mahaffey received offers from other major programs, including nearby Cincinnati, Kansas State and West Virginia.
Prior to Mahaffey’s commitment, point guard Kanye Clary out of Virginia committed to play for Penn State. That now means Shrewsberry has two players as part of his first full recruiting class.
Mahaffey and Clary will hopefully bring Shrewsberry some stability when it comes to the roster. Shrewsberry is entering his first season as the Nittany Lions’ leading man with just four players who have played significant minutes with Penn State. The rest of the roster is chalked full of transfers and incoming freshmen.
