Penn State defensive back Joseph Johnson III has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. He made the announcement via a post on Twitter on Tuesday.

Johnson spent one season with the Nittany Lions, as he was a member of the team’s 2020 recruiting class. As a high school prospect, the cornerback was a 3-star talent but was one of the Top 400 players in his recruiting class.

Below is the statement Johnson sent out on Tuesday:

Johnson is a native of Colonial Heights, Virginia and was considered the No. 11 player from the state. He was also ranked as the No. 32 cornerback for the cycle. The 3-star talent picked Penn State over offers from 21 other programs.

It’s unclear where Johnson has interest in attending at this time. He could still return to Penn State if it’s in his best interest, but that seems unlikely based on his social media post.

Johnson did not see any game action during Penn State’s 4-5 season in 2020.
