James Franklin is asking a lot from the Penn State faithful this season — and in PSU’s home-opener vs. Ball State on Saturday.
Franklin has set a goal for the Happy Valley crowd of creating five pre-snap penalties on Saturday against Ball State. He also said he wants the Nittany Lions to lead the country in that statistic this season.
The underlying goal: “Create the most disruptive atmosphere in college football.”

Penn State is coming off a road win at Wisconsin in Week 1. The Nittany Lions’ defense was especially dominant, holding the Badgers’ offense to just 10 points and fewer than four yards per play.
Quarterback Sean Clifford also looked more effective under new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. Clifford threw for 247 yards and 1 touchdown in Penn State’s 16-10 Week 1 victory.
Saturday’s game vs. Ball State will mark the first time fans are allowed at a Penn State home game since Nov. 30, 2019.
Kick off on Saturday is at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on FS1.
