Previously, both Lyons and Keys were suspended from the program and were not at practice as of late July.
Lyons was expected to have a significant role in Penn State’s defensive line rotation this season. He showed promise as a true freshman in 2023, recording 2.5 tackles for loss and 1 sack.
Keys was slated to be an important reserve linebacker for Penn State in 2024. Also a second-year player, Keys was credited with 1 tackle a year ago in his true freshman campaign.
Lyons and Keys were both considered to be 4-star prospects in the class of 2023. They were both top-300 recruits, per 247Sports Composite rankings, making them 2 of Penn State’s highest-rated defensive signees for that recruiting cycle.
Their departures are a hit to Penn State’s depth on defense in 2024, but this is still expected to be a very strong unit overall. The Nittany Lions have a regular-season win total of 10.5, according to the latest line from DraftKings.
