Penn State now has the nation’s No. 2-ranked recruiting class, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Nittany Lions were at No. 8 last week before a flurry of commitments around July 4 propelled them to a top-three spot. Then, their punter commitment — Alex Bacchetta — got bumped to 3-star status.
That was enough to push Penn State past the Irish for the No. 2 spot in the class of 2022 rankings:

Penn State has 18 commitments, including 10 from 4-star prospects. The class is led by Nicholas Singleton, who is the nation’s No. 6 overall running back.
Quarterback Drew Allar could receive a bump in the rankings soon as well, especially after his impressive showing at the Elite Eleven finals last week. He’s currently ranked as the No. 11 quarterback in the nation, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
Ten of Penn State’s commitments come from the state of Pennsylvania. It’s an incredibly strong class for the Keystone State, and the Nittany Lions are taking advantage.
This class comes on the heels of a disappointing 2020 campaign and a 2021 recruiting class that fell outside the top-20 nationally. Penn State only had six 4-star prospects and four in-state signees during the 2021 class.
Prospects in the class of 2022 can officially sign with their schools during the Early Signing Period in December.
