Penn State quarterback commit Drew Allar has gone slightly under-the-radar nationally, but that should be about to change.
Allar impressed media, scouts and coaches at the Elite 11 Finals this week. According to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, Allar even drew comparisons to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Here’s an excerpt from Feldman’s breakdown of the event:
Coming in, Drew Allar, a Penn State commit, reminded some of the Elite 11 coaches of a young Josh Allen. That’s hefty praise. I’ll go with this: He’s the most physically gifted quarterback James Franklin has landed since he has been in Happy Valley. He was very impressive the first two days of the camp and then like many of the QBs at the event, tailed off some. The Penn State staff has a lot to work with in Allar.
Allar has a huge frame and a strong arm, which likely fuels a portion of the Allen comps. He’s listed at 6-foot-5, 228 pounds.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Allar is the No. 11 quarterback and the No. 142 overall player for the class of 2022. He’s the leader of a Penn State recruiting class that’s currently No. 7 for the class of 2022, per 247Sports.
Penn State has struggled to find a consistent option at quarterback in recent seasons, so the door could be open for Allar to start as soon as the 2022 season if he continues to develop.
Allar will be able to officially sign with Penn State during the Early Signing Period in December.
