Penn State released the full list of game themes for the 2024 season on Monday, including the date for the highly anticipated 2024 White Out.

Though Ohio State is on the schedule for a visit to Beaver Stadium, Penn State will not host a White Out for the Buckeyes. Instead, Penn State will use the Nov. 2 game against Ohio State as the “Helmet Stripe” game, meaning the majority of the stadium will still be in white but not quite all of the stadium.

As for the White Out, that will feature a visit from Washington on Nov. 9. The Huskies and Nittany Lions have 3 all-time meetings, but Washington has never made a road trip to Beaver Stadium. The White Out will also be the 2nd-to-last home game of the season.

Homecoming for the Nittany Lions is set for Sept. 28 against Illinois, and Penn State will also host a “Stripe Out” vs. UCLA on Oct. 5.

Reaction to the decision

Penn State is certainly rolling out all the stops for Washington’s first visit to Happy Valley. The White Out is always one of the great spectacles of the college football season, and the Huskies will get their first taste of life on the road in the Big Ten in awesome fashion.

However, the decision is not without some detractors. Ohio State has been a common choice for the White Out over the years, and it’s not hard to see why with the way the head-to-head rivalry has developed under James Franklin’s tenure.

The Helmet Stripe layout will still be a nice setup for facing the Buckeyes, but many fans were dissatisfied that the White Out will not feature Ohio State. Others expressed frustration about the potential kickoff times involved. With Ohio State and Penn State possibly set for a Big Noon Kickoff, it’s a possibility the White Out date was selected in hopes of getting a night game against Washington.
