Penn State defeated No. 14 Wisconsin 81-71 on Saturday afternoon, giving the Nittany Lions their best win of the season.

The unlikely hero for PSU in this game was big man John Harrar, who made several key plays down the stretch. However, none were more important than an and-one he converted in transition with under three minutes to go.

Here’s the play:

Harrar finished the game with 17 points and eight rebounds, including a pair of key boards in the final couple minutes. All eight rebounds came in the second half and his 17 points represent a career high.

This is a massive win for Penn State’s NCAA Tournament chances. The Nittany Lions entered this game at No. 41 in KenPom’s rankings — firmly on the bubble. This is also PSU’s first ranked conference win of the season.

Myreon Jones led the way for PSU, scoring a game-high 20 points. Izaiah Brockington poured in 18 points.

Penn State hadn’t defeated Wisconsin since that infamous 36-33 win over the Badgers in the 2011 Big Ten Tournament. That streak spanned 13 consecutive wins for Wisconsin in this series.

For the Badgers, Nathan Reuvers scored a team-high 18 points and added five boards off the bench. This was Wisconsin’s first loss vs. an unranked team since losing to Maryland on Dec. 28, 2020.

Due to a scheduling quirk, these two teams will face off again on Tuesday, Feb. 2 in Madison.
