Nije, from Centerville, Ohio, spent his freshman season at PSU. He played in 37 games this past season, making 26 starts. Nije averaged 3.4 points and 3.5 rebounds over 14.3 minutes per game in his first season of college basketball.
On Nov. 10, Nije posted a season-high 12 points against Loyola Maryland. He logged 26 minutes, the most of his freshman year, against Indiana on March 11.
Out of La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana, Nije was rated 4-stars, the No. 21 center and No. 118 prospect overall nationally in the 2022 recruiting class on the 247Sports composite rankings. Nije chose PSU over scholarship offers from Butler and Kansas State.
