Penn State suspends Mike Watkins for season finale

Penn State will be without one of its top players for Saturday’s season finale against Northwestern.

Before tipoff on Saturday, 247Sports reported that Mike Watkins will not be available for the Nittany Lions’ season finale against Northwestern. Watkins is facing a suspension for a violation of team rules, according to the report.

“Mike Watkins is not available for the Northwestern game due to a violation of team rules,” Penn State said in a statement, according to 247Sports. There was no specification regarding what led to the suspension.

Watkins is a fifth-year senior with the Nittany Lions.

This season, Watkins has appeared in 30 games and is averaging 9.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Watkins started in Penn State’s last game against Michigan State, scoring 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds in a loss. It was Senior Day for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State enters Saturday’s game against Northwestern with a 21-9 record and an 11-8 mark in B1G play.
