Penn State updates COVID-19 situation after Maryland announces ‘increased’ cases

Maryland announced Wednesday afternoon it is shutting down its football program after sustaining an “increased” number of positive COVID-19 cases.
That could be problematic for Penn State, who faced Maryland in Week 3.
However, the news out of State College so far is good.
Per a spokesperson, no changes for Penn State as it pertains to Maryland news.

The Nittany Lions did announce six new positive cases on Wednesday, but that number covers the entire athletic department. Penn State athletics says it administered 2,285 tests between Oct. 31 and Nov. 6.
Penn State isn’t out of the woods yet, but recent trends suggest they aren’t necessarily heading for an outbreak just because they played Maryland on Saturday.
After Week 1, Wisconsin had to temporarily shut down its program due to an outbreak. The Badgers’ Week 1 opponent, Illinois, had a few positive cases — including starting quarterback Brandon Peters — but have not missed a game.
Penn State is set to travel to Nebraska this weekend as both teams are in search of their first wins of the season.
